If you are among the many Venom fans who were sorely disappointed by the character's appearance in "Spider-Man 3," then fear not! Sony Pictures, the producers behind the upcoming "Amazing Spider-Man," are hard at work on another movie starring everyone's favorite psychotic symbiote. But while the news of a "Venom" movie has us tittering like school girls, it still begs the question of who will be the film's main antagonist?
Venom, who is arguably one of Spider-Man's deadliest and most prolific adversaries, is certainly no traditional hero. In fact, he's not a hero at all! However, in order for a "Venom" movie to work, we need to be emotionally invested in his character. Which might prove to be a little trickier than Sony initially thought.
Here's our list of potential antagonists for the "Venom" movie:
Spider-Man
During an interview this past weekend, Sony hinted at a possible Venom/Spider-Man tie-in making ol' webhead the prime suspect in the case of Eddie Brock's opposition. Casting Andrew Garfield in the "Venom" movie would certainly help bridge the gap between the two films, making Sony one step closer to an Avengers-esque crossover spectacular!
Crime-Master
Currently, in the comic book universe, Crime-Master acts as the proverbial thorn in Venom's foot. As his name suggests, he is a criminal mastermind with an impressive array of powerful henchmen at his disposal; including but not limited to Jack O'Lantern, Human Fly and Toxin, a symbiote derived from Venom himself. There have been several incarnations of Crime-Master to date, but this latest version is by far the most dangerous.
Sin-Eater
A former agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., Stanley Carter was injected with several experimental drugs increasing his strength and endurance on a molecular level. He is also indirectly responsible for the creation of Venom. As an ambitious reporter for the Daily Bugle, Eddie Brock interviewed a man who claimed that he was the Sin-Eater. But when the news got out of Spider-Man catching the real killer, Eddie Brock was fired and vowed to exact his revenge on the web-slinging superhero.
The Suit
Not much is known about The Suit, other than the fact that it is an energy-based life form created by Nick Fury with the hopes of stopping Venom. Comprised of tiny alien robots discovered by Reed Richards (a.k.a. Mr. Fantastic), this sentient cluster of nanotechnology shares a great interest in the alien symbiote. Perhaps they are fully aware of the evil that Venom is capable of. Perhaps they're the only ones that know how to stop it once and for all.
Carnage
Being the offspring of Venom, Carnage is just as demented as his father but without any of the humanity. Cletus Kasady, Eddie Brock's former cell mate, is a deranged psychopath without any regard for human life, which makes him a truly terrifying force to be reckoned with once he's bonded with the Carnage symbiote. The wrath of Carnage proved to be one of the few times that Venom took it upon himself to fight for the good of mankind. Let's hope that Sony finds it in their hearts to finally give us Spider-Man fanboys not one, but two of the villains that we so justly deserve.
