Chris Zylka's Fingers Are Crossed For 'Venom' Movie

Spider-Man and Venom are about to enjoy their very own "Avengers"-inspired shared universe, if producers get their way. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach, who both produced next week's "Amazing" reboot and the forthcoming "Venom" movie, recently expressed their desires to see some connective tissue between the solo "Venom" film and the newly relaunched Spidey movies.

That connective tissue might have a name, too: Chris Zylka.

Zylka stars in "Amazing" as Flash Thompson, the high school bully that wails on Peter but worships at Spider-Man's altar. Though the Venom character is most commonly associated with disgruntled Daily Bugle photographer Eddie Brock, there's also an ongoing arc in the comics right now where Flash himself is wearing the living, soul-sucking suit: following a war injury that claimed both of his legs, Flash was tasked by the government with wearing the Venom symbiote and working on their behalf. A dream come true for the kid who always adored his friendly neighborhood Spider-Man!

So, even though the upcoming "Venom" movie will supposedly center on Brock, there's absolutely precedent for the movie to focus on Flash instead — and Zylka, speaking with MTV News, is more than aware of that fact.

"I am. I am aware," Zylka said when we asked him if he knows about Flash's current situation in the comics. When pushed further about whether or not he's talked with Sony about starring in the "Venom" movie, he crossed his fingers and said, "We'll talk next year."

"Flash obviously needs no ego boost, but what's nice in the comics now, not the movies, is the fact that he's crippled and the symbiote gives him legs," he said of why he's a fan of the current Flash arc. "There's a whole 'Avatar,' James Cameron thing, that feeling of being able to walk again and have legs. That's something that's very interesting in the comics."
